ya da gammo [ya/" da" ga+mmo"]. 1. {n.m.}. (Kats.) Going to a village by a married woman, ostensibly for the purpose of trading, but in reality for immorality. 2. {n.f.}. A woman who does the above. (= kasuwa da gado.)

ya'da k'warya [ya/"'da" k'wa+r+ya"] {n.f.}. The name of a creeper. (= fasa k'aba.)

ya da loko [ya/" da" lo/+ko"] {n.m.}. 1. Settling down in a town distant from his home by a trader who finds he has not made enough profit in his venture to allow of his returning home. 2. One who does the above.

ya da sungumi [ya/" da/" su"ngu+mi/+] {n.m.}. Sowing a ground-nut farm immediately after sowing corn.

yadawa [ya/+da/"wa/+] {4c yada}.

How; the way in which; in accordance with what. e.g. ban san yadda ya yi shi ba, S I don't know how he did it. ka aikata yadda na gaya maka, act in accordance with what I have told you. yadda ka fa'da mini, haka na yi, I did exactly as you told me. (= wadda II; kanda; k'anda.) 2. {v.tr.2c}. (a) (K.) Consent to p. retaining permanently a thing already temporarily entrusted, or loaned to him, or in his present possession. e.g. na/ yadda masa littafin nan. (b) (K.) {only in past}. Turn out (by parent) son or daughter from the home. (c) (S. & Kats.) = yad da q.v. II. [ya+dda"] {4d yadda I. 2}. III. [ya"dda/+]. (Ar.) 1. {v.intr.3aa}. (a) Consent; agree; acquiesce; approve. e.g. ka/ y. ya tafi? na/ y., do you approve of his going? I approve. (b) yadda da, aggre to; approve of. e.g. ban yadda da shi ba, I do not approve of, agree to, it. (Vide yaddar, the form before dative.) (= yarda; yarje.) 2. {n.f.; 4g of no. 1}. ya'du [ya/"'du+] {v.intr.3a}. 1. Spread (creeping plant, news, &c.). 2. Become scattered (flock of animals, &c.). 3. Vide ya'da I, III.

ya'duwa [ya/"'du+wa/+] {cont. and v.n. of ya'du}.

ya'e [ya/'e]. 1. In the expressions of astonishment, &c., dole ya'e; wa'ddare ya'e; lagale ya'e; dewa ya'e. 2. Just like, but only in derogatory expressions. e.g. hauka ya'e, just like the work, ways, &c., of a lunatic (said when a person has done something very foolish).

yafa. I. [ya/fa"] {v.tr.2c; ya/+fo/+ (2e. i); ya/"fu+ (3a. ii)}. 1. (a) Fling a cloth over the shoulder and round the body. (= yabu'da; cf. yafe 2.) (b) Put a burnous or other garment over the shoulders. (Vide mayafi.) 2. ka/ ara ka/ y., the statement did not, apply to you, and was not meant to do so, though you took it as such. 3. Sow seeds by scattering, e.g. rice, onions, tobacco, &c. (= watsa.) 4. Throw into the mouth such small things as millet-seed, nuts, &c. (= afa.) 5. (a) Sprinkle water, &c. (b) Wash; splash water over body. (c) an y. ruwa, there has been a little shower of rain. 6. Lift and stiffen tail (a habit of some horses when spurred). e.g. dokin nan yina yafawa. 7. Throw in gratis to purchaser a small extra amount of corn, &c. 8. Offer a slight increase of price. e.g. in ana so, a y. min ka'dan, if it is wanted then offer me a little more money for it. II. [ya/+fa"] {4d yafa I}. III. [ya/"fa/+]. 1. {v.tr.1a}. Forgive. (= gafarta.) 2. {n.f.; 4e of III. 1}. IV. [ya"fa/+] {n.f.}. 1. The shadow of a flying bird. 2. bin y., (a) following after a wounded birh; (b) endeavouring to cadge from a close-fisted person.
