Textbook LSI
When deciding which companies would help illustrate Slator’s new Language Solutions Integrator (LSI) / Language Technology Platform (LTP) framework, AI audio startup ElevenLabs was an obvious choice for the prototypical LTP.
The London-headquartered triple unicorn develops language technology and puts it on a platform for consumers to use or for developers to build on. Pricing is based on a monthly or annual subscription fee. Textbook LTP.
This week, though, ElevenLabs signalled that building a SaaS business isn't enough when they launched “Productions,” a “managed service offering for ordering human-edited content.” Got it, an expert-in-the-loop language solution powered by the latest tech. Priced per minute. Well, that is textbook LSI.
ElevenLabs says it’s targeting “big creators and media companies,” which “often rely on legacy vendors,” and promises to do away with “email chains, high costs, and months of waiting.” But even 2025 AI can’t do everything, so ElevenLabs has embarked on a recruitment drive to find expert linguists. Welcome to the fun world of LSI vendor management! I’m sure you’ll also like LSI project management. And LSI quality assurance, etc, etc.
