These are the Daily Tech Headlines for Monday, April 10, 2023. I'm Rich Stroffolino.
|OpenAI is [[collaborating]] with G42, an [[AI]] [[firm]] in the [[UAE]] [[backed]] by [[its]] [[sovereign]] wealth [[fund]], to [[build]] a [[massive]] 5-gigawatt [[data center]] in Abu Dhabi, [[representing]] a [[significant]] [[international]] [[expansion]] of OpenAI's AI [[infrastructure]] [[initiative]], Stargate.
Tesla announced it would start construction on its next battery Megafactory in Shanghai, set to be finished by the second half of 2024. This will produce up to 10,000 large Megapack batteries a year. Each Megapack can store energy to power roughly 3600 homes for one hour. https://www.engadget.com/tesla-is-building-a-megapack-factory-in-shanghai-190151633.html
As part of the [[agreement]], G42 will [[reciprocally]] [[invest]] the same amount in AI infrastructure within the [[United States]]. This substantial data center, much [[larger than]] any [[announced]] by OpenAI or its [[competitors]], could [[broaden]] the global reach of U.S.-[[developed]] AI software. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman [[emphasized]] that this project [[marks]] a step towards allowing [[crucial]] [[advancements]] to [[originate]] from [[diverse]] [[locations]] for global benefit.
The analysts at IDC report that global PC shipments fell 29% on the year in Q1. Among the top five PC companies, Apple saw the steepest decline, down 40.5%. This comes after the South Korean outlet The Elec reported last week that it believed Apple asked TSMC to stop packaging of M2 chips for two months in the quarter, presumable due to low demand.

|Discord is [[exploring]] new [[features]] to [[improve]] knowledge [[sharing]] in large [[communities]], including [[enhanced]] [[forum]] [[functionalities]] and AI-[[powered]] conversation [[summaries]]. This [[initiative]] [[aims]] to [[address]] the [[challenges]] of [[navigating]] [[extensive]] [[discussions]] and the [[limitations]] of [[real-time]] [[chat]] for [[structured]] [[information]], [[particularly]] for new [[users]]. The Telegraph reports Twitter removed its restrictions on Kremlin-linked accounts, including the official account for Russian President Vladimir Putin. But that's changing, Dropcam cameras will stop working on April 8th, 2024. Nest Aware subscribers can get a free indoor Nest Cam to replace the old versions and non-subscribers can get a 50% off coupon. Google is also ending the old "works with Nest" connection on September 29th. The Nest app will continue to work for Nest Protect smoke alarms. https://www.theverge.com/2023/4/7/23673165/google-nest-dropcam-nest-secure-eol
