The word "raiba" (from Arabic رَيْبَ) generally means doubt, uncertainty, or suspicion — especially in Qur'anic usage.

However, in the phrase:

"rayba al-manūn" (رَيْبَ الْمَنُونِ) — the misfortune of time as in Qur’an 52:30, it takes the meaning of misfortune, calamity, or the fate of death.

So, translations of raiba / misfortune into Hausa include: Masifa – calamity, disaster

Ibtila’i – trial, affliction

Bala’i – misfortune, tragedy

Rashin lafiya / mutuwa – (contextual for death or misfortune)

Shakku / ruɗani – (if translating "raiba" as doubt or uncertainty)
