Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, holder of the royal title 'Dan Masanin Kano, is a well informed respectable man who has seen yesteryears and present times. Here is his answer to the question: | |
Alhaji Yusuf: Jiya, ana zancen zamanin su Sardauna da su Tafawa Balewa ko? Na taɓa faɗi na ce da za’a ɗauki aƙidar su Sardauna, aƙidar Bafulatanin daji, da dukan abinda ya damemu a Najeriya za mu samu ansa. Rikici ne na addini, rikici ne na Kabila, rikici ne na siyasa, rikici ne na zamantakewa; duk aƙidar Sardauna za ta yi maganinsa. Jam’iyyar da muka fara yi a arewa ba ta siyasa ba ce, ita ce NPC, alif ɗari tara da arba’in da tara a watan June, a Kaduna, muka kafa jam’iyyarnan. Amma wanene shugaban wannan jam’iyar? Wanda yake shugaban wannan jam’iyar shine Dr R.B. Dikko Kirista ne. Muka zaɓi kirista a alif ɗari tara da arba’in da tara shekara sittin da ukku ko da biyu da suka wuce, ya zama shugabanmu, da jam’iyar NPC ta zama ta siyaya Sardauna ya kama shugabanci. | Alhaji Yusuf: Yesterday Sardauna and Tafawa Balewa’s era was discussed, right? I once said that if we would pursue the philosophy of people like Sardauna, the pastoral Fulani’s philosophy, then we would have a solution to anything that bothers us. Whether it is a religious or ethnic conflict, or political or social problem, Sardauna's philosophy would bring a solution to all of these.. The Alliance we started in the North was not a political one. That was the NPC that we founded in June of 1949 in Kaduna. And who was the leader of the Alliance? The leader of that Alliance was Dr R. B. Dikko, a Christian. In 1949, 63 or rather 62 years ago, we chose a Christian to be our leader and when the NPC became a political party, Sardauna took over the leadership. | |
Yana Premier ɗin nan, likitansa mai duba shi, Dr Ishaya Audu, Kirista ne, mai kula da sha’anin tsaro, a ofishinsa ko kuma a ƙasar ma baki ɗaya, Sunday Awoniyi kirista ne, Bayarabe, daga Kabba, Wa’yannan Kiristoci kowane daga ƙabila dabam dabam, sune suke tare da Sardauna. Bai tsangwame su ba, bai nuna musu ƙyama ba. Ka ga idan sha’anin addini ne, ya kawo amsa, ka ga Sardauna bai nuna ƙiyaya ba game da wani ko? Sardauna ya yi wannan, ya zauna ya ba kowa hakkinsa, ya yi adalci. | While he was a Premier, his doctor, Dr. Ishaya Audu, was a Christian; the person overseeing security measures at his office and also National Security, Sunday Awoniyi, was a Christian and Yoruba from Kabba.. These Christians, each from a different tribe, were the ones with Sardauna. He did not harass them, nor did he despise them. So you see, if it is about a religious issue, he brought a solution. Therefore, Sardauna did not demonstrate hatred toward anybody, right? Sardauna did this; he was fair to everybody, he exerted honesty. | |
Dangane da tattalin arziki, Sardauna na faɗa mana, yana cewa “ba’a gudu da susar ɗuwawu”. Ya ce duk wani ministansa wanda ya ce yana neman kuɗi ko yana so ya je ya yi cikini, ya bar minister ya je ya yi ciniki zan taimaka masa. Amma ba za ka zo kana mulki kana ciniki ba, ba za ta yiyu ba. Ai ba ga banza ba Allah ya yi wani mai sarauta, wani talaka wani mai saye ya yi wani mai sayarwa, wani malami wani jahili. Kowa yana buƙata kowa, Allah ya yi wannan tsari saboda duk mu samu zaman lafiya. Sardauna ya yarda da wannan. | Regarding the economy, Sardauna put it to us that "one cannot run while scratching his bottom" ["one cannot walk and chew gum at the same time" or there is no loophole for multi-tasking]. He stated: "any of my ministers who asserts that he is looking for money or considers going into business, should therefore leave the position and engage into business. I would help. You cannot be a leader and hold a business; it would not be possible. God did not make one a noble person, another an ordinary person, a buyer and a seller, a literate and an illiterate, for no reason; each one needs the other. God made this scheme so that we all live peacefully. Sardauna supports that. | |

Alhaji Yusuf: Dangane da Zamantawa, ka je gidan Sardauna ka ga yadda yake zaune da mutane in za’a ci abinci. Da direbansa, da akawunsa, da sakatare, da minista, duk tare za’a zauna a ci abinci, bai ƙyame ka ba. | Alhaji Yusuf: Regarding interrelationship, go to Sardauna’s home and see how he sat with people at meal time. His driver, clerk, secretary and minister, all would sit and eat together; he did not despise. | |
Alhaji Yusuf: Dangane da siyaya kuma, malam Aminu Kano Allah ya jiƙansa, NEPU ya yi NCNC Alliance, Tarka, UMBC ya yi-Action Group Alliance, Sardauna yana yin NPC, yana premier. Amma duka abinda ya tashi, in dai ya shafi Arewa, Tarka ko malam Aminu Kano za su zo su faɗa wa Sardauna ko su faɗa wa Tafawa Balewa. Malam Aminu Kano idan ya je Kaduna Lacca, in ya gama in ya taso zai dawo gida zai tsaya gidan Sardauna. A gaya wa Sardauna Malam Aminu ya zo, ko yana barci ya fito. Su shiga ɗaki su rufe, yaran Malam Aminu suna gunaguni, ‘yan gidan Sardauna suna Allah tsine. Sardauna da Aminu suna ɗaki suna shawararsu ba wanda ya sani. Tarfa idan ya ji za’a yi wani abu wanda yake ba shikenan ba, wanda zai cuci arewa, sai ya zo ya faɗa wa Sardauna ko ya faɗa wa Tafawa Balewa a siyasance akwai wata rigima. | Alhaji Yusuf: Regarding politics, Mr. Aminu Kano, may his soul rest in peace, he was in NEPU (Northern Elements Progressive Union), the ACNC Alliance, Tarka in the UNDC, the Action Group Alliance; Sardauna was involved in the NPC as a premier. However, whatever issues arise, concerning the north, Tarka or Mr. Aminu Kano would notify Sardauna or Tafawa Balewa. When Mr. Aminu Kano went on a trip to give lectures in Kaduna, he would stop by Sardauna's house on his way home. When they told Sardauna about Mr. Aminu’s presence, even if he was sleeping, he would come out to meet him. They would go behind closed doors, as Mr. Aminu's children grumbled and Sardauna’s entourage complained. Sardauna and Aminu would be consulting behind closed doors and nobody was aware [of their conversation]. When Tarfa hears that something detrimental to the North was being plotted, he would notify Sardauna or Tafawa Balewa diplomatically that there was some trouble. | |
Ga bambamcin siyasa, ga bambamcin addini, ga bambamcin ƙabila, amma muka ɗauka a ƙasar arewa ita ce ta fi komi muhimmanci, a haɗu a zauna lami lafiya. Kuma babban abinda ya kawo wannan –adalci na Sardauna. Don haka nake cewa, idan da za’a ɗauki aƙidar Sardauna , aƙidar Bafilatanin daji. Me aƙidar Bafilatanin daji? In ka lura Bafilatani yana gaba, ba baya yake ba yana koro shanu. Yana gaba ne shanun suna biye da shi. In ya tsaya a bakin titi ba zai tsallaka ba sai su tsaya. Kai har ma yakan sa ma wasu shanun suna, in ya kira saniya da sunanta sai ta baro garkenta ta taho wurinsa. Me ya sa suke masa biyaya? Su nai masa biyaya saboda ya sadaukar da ransa saboda su. Duk wani abu da yake na jin daɗi ya bayar nasa saboda su su ji daɗi. A daji yake kwana da shanun. | Political, religious and ethnic differences existed, but we regarded the North as most important, for the sake of unity and coexistence. The main reason for that to happen was - Sardauna’s fairness. That is why I stated that if we would adopt Sardauna's or the pastoral Fulani's philosophy… What does the pastoral Fulani's philosophy mean? If you observe, the Fulani [herdsman] goes in front of the cattle, not behind, guiding it. He leads and the cattle follows him. When he stops at the crossroad and doesn't go across, they stop. He even names some and when he calls a cow by its name, it leaves the herd and comes up to him. Why do they obey him? They obey him because he sacrificed his life for them. He gave up everything he enjoyed doing so that they feel good. He spends nights in the wilderness with the cattle . | |
To wannan biyyaya, in an samu biyyaya da zama lafiya, adalcin shugaba da kuma wannan gudumuwa da shugaba yake yi, da sadauka da duk wani abu nasa saboda mabiyansa su ji daɗi, irin wannan muke so. Zaman da aka yi da kenan, aka samu ci gaba, alhamdulillahi, kuma har yau ake tunawa da sauran mazan jiya ɗin nan ake musu addu’a, Allah ya gafarta musu. | Well, such obedience, when attained together with peace, fairness on the part of a leader, and the contribution that the leader brings by giving up anything else he holds for the contentment of his followers, is what we want. That was the way of life then. Progress was achieved, and, praise be to God, we still remember those heroes and pray that God treats them with mercy. |
