  2. Chad's main insurgent group, Front for Change and Concord in Chad, has refused to join a peace deal signed between the Chadian government and the county's rebel groups. Press TV reported that over 40 rebel groups had on Monday (8 August) signed a national reconciliation deal in the Qatari capital, Doha.
  3. Preparations are under way for the launch of Iran's Khayyam ERS satellite by the Russian Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket at the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The blast-off is scheduled for 1330 (local time) on Tue (9 Aug).
  4. At least 6 people have been confirmed dead while about 50 others were reported wounded after Nigerian security forces opened fire on Ashura procession in Zaria in the north-western Kaduna State on Monday (8 August). The injured were rushed to various hospitals across Zaria, according to Sheikh Abdulhamid Bello, local representative of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
  5. An Iranian Foreign Ministry official has rejected a report published by the WSJ saying an agreement to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal had been finalized. The Iranian news agency IRNA quoted the unnamed official saying talks were still under way on some important issues and that the deal had not yet been finalized.
  6. Speaker of the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States Sidie Tunis has announced the immediate suspension of staff recruitment. The suspension follows allegations by Nigerian representatives at the parliament that the country's candidates had been marginalized in the recruitment exercise.
  7. A top official of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Khaled Hait, has warned that the group would resume fighting against Israeli regime does not release its members as agreed in a recent ceasefire agreement brokered by Egypt.

  14. A British museum has said it would return dozens of artifacts to the Nigerian government that were taken forcibly more than a century ago. The Horniman Museum and Gardens in London plans to hand over 72 objects that were looted from Benin City in southern Nigeria during a British military invasion in 1897.
