Bayanin Suratul Fatiha [1]

Sūratul-Fātiḥah (Larabci سُورَةُ الْفَاتِحَة) itace (surah) ta farko acikin alkur'ani. Ayoyin (ayat) ta bakwai addu'o'i ne na neman shiriya, da girmamawa ga Allah, da neman rahmar Allah.[1] suratul fatiha nada mutukar mahimmanci acikin (sallah). Ma'anar kalmar "al-Fātiḥah" a ilimance shine "Mabudi" Wanda hakan me nuna itace ta farko acikin alkur'ani, ita tafara bude surorin alkur'ani (Fātiḥat al-kitāb), da kasancewa itace Surar da akekaranta ta cikakkiya acikin kowace (rakʿah), da kuma yadda takasance itace ake farawa da'ita a wurin gabatar da abubuwan addinin daban-daban.[2]

The Message of the Qur'an Description of Al-Fatiha

THE FIRST SURAH Al-Fatihah (The Opening) Mecca Period THIS SURAH is also called Fatibat al-Kitab ("The Opening of the Divine Writ"), Umm al-Kitab ("The Essence of the Divine Writ"), Surat al-Hamd ("The Surah of Praise"), Asas al-Qur'an ("The Foundation of the Qur'an"), and is known by several other names as well. It is mentioned elsewhere in the Qur'an as AsSab al-Mathani ("The Seven Oft-Repeated [ Verses ]") because it is repeated several times in the course of each of the five daily prayers.

According to Bukhari, the designation Umm al-Kitab was given to it by the Prophet himself, and this in view of the fact that it contains, in a condensed form, all the fundamental principles laid down in the Qur'an:

  1. the principle of God's oneness and uniqueness,
  2. of His being the originator and fosterer of the universe,
  3. the fount of all life-giving grace,
  4. the One to whom man is ultimately responsible,
  5. the only power that can really guide and help;
  6. the call to righteous action in the life of this world ("guide us the straight way");
  7. the principle of life after death
  8. and of the organic consequences of man's actions and behaviour (expressed in the term "Day of Judgment");
  9. the principle of guidance through God's message-bearers (evident in the reference to "those upon whom God has bestowed.

Muhammad ( P ) was frightened of the visions and words he was receiving in the first days of his

ministry. At the age of forty, he had experienced a supernatural visitation while meditating alone in a

mountain cave. A voice had told him that he was appointed as a messenger of Allah. Then the voice

said some rhythmic words to him. (See chapter 96 for this first revelation.)

He didn't understand what was happening to him at first, but Waraqah, the old blind cousin of his

wife Khadijah, later assured him that he had been contacted by an angel of the Lord.

Now, whenever he would walk in the desert outside of his hometown of Mecca, Muhammad ( P )

would sometimes hear the voice of that hidden spirit calling out to him, causing him to run back to the

safety of his home. (See introductions to chapters 73 and 74.)

When he again told his wife's cousin Waraqah about this continuing phenomenon, he urged

Muhammad ( P ) to stay and listen and report back to him with what he heard.

Accordingly, one day Muhammad ( P )stood his ground when he heard the voice again during one his

walks in the countryside. When the voice called out his name, Muhammad ( P ) said, “Here I am."

Then the voice commanded him to repeat that there was only One God and that he, Muhammad, ( P )

was the Messenger of Allah. After Muhammad ( P ) had done so, then the voice commanded him to

recite yet further a new set of phrases, which were the verses of this chapter below. ( Wahidi )

Name

This Surah is named Al-Fatihah because of its subject matter. Fatihah is that which opens a subject or a book or any other thing. In other words, Al-Fatihah is a sort of preface.

Period of Revelation

Surah Al-Fatihah is one of the very earliest Revelations to the Holy Prophet. As a matter of fact, we learn from authentic traditions that it was the first complete Surah that was revealed to Muhammad (Allah's peace be upon him). Before this, only a few miscellaneous verses were revealed which form parts of Alaq, Muzzammil, Muddaththir, etc.

Theme

This Surah is in fact a prayer that Allah has taught to all those who want to make a study of His book. It has been placed at the very beginning of the Quran to teach this lesson to the reader: if you sincerely want to benefit from the Quran, you should offer this prayer to the Lord of the Universe.

This preface is meant to create a strong desire in the heart of the reader to seek guidance from the Lord of the Universe Who alone can grant it. Thus Al-Fatihah indirectly teaches that the best thing for a man is to pray for guidance to the straight path, to study the Quran with the mental attitude of a seeker searching for the truth, and to recognize the fact that the Lord of the Universe is the source of all knowledge. He should, therefore, begin the study of the Quran with a prayer to Him for guidance.

From this theme, it becomes clear that the real relation between Al-Fatihah and the Quran is not that of an introduction to a book but that of a prayer and its answer. Al-Fatihah is the prayer from the servant and the Quran is the answer from the Master to the servant's prayer. The servant prays to Allah to show him guidance and the Master places the whole of the Quran before him in answer to his prayer, as if to say, "This is the Guidance you begged from Me."
